In this post I’d like to cover some important issues in regards to marketing online promotions in the best possible way. Promotions if planned effectively with a good marketing plan as backup can work very well in ecommerce based online businesses.

First of all you’ll need to look at what your competitors are offering and simply come up with a competitive but profitable offer. Sounds pretty simple does it not? But think about what your goals are e.g. new business sales, existing customer offers etc. and ensure the offer is desirable for that target audience.

Once you have decided on the promotion you want to offer, you need to ensure your audience is going to be made aware of it, so get yourself a coffee, sit down once again and begin to design your strategy. You need to start by looking at where your visitors land (pages within your website), and ensure the promotion is highly visible and eye catching to the consumer, you can ensure this happens by using a heading banner dedicated to the promotion on your home page or most visited page.

You need to also ensure your visitors are made aware that it is online only promotion and you can achieve this by changing the website description shown in search engine search results, for example the description for an art website can be Free delivery and 20% off all commissions submitted online etc. Remember to have an attractive description that is straight to the point, as this will encourage new visitors to want to select your website from the search engine results.

If you have a mailing list take full advantage of this and design a direct promotional email ensuring it is to the point and makes the recipient want to click links that you can design to take them to particular pages on your website, giving you the navigational control and ensuring it’s effective use in your promotion.

Now with my favourite word again, ensure that on all your external directory pages and website descriptions have been edited to show your exclusive online promotion and sit back and watch your marketing plan unveil and produce results.
