WordPress Themes: Free or Premium?
WordPress is an amazing open source blogging platform that is popular amongst many bloggers and general webmasters alike.
What makes using WordPress so unique is the ability to use one of the many thousands of skins known as themes to effectively personalise your blog. This along with various plugins can make your blogging experience a joyful and rewarding one.
These days there is an abundance of free WordPress themes available on the web which you can simply download and use for your blog projects without spending a single cent.
But before you do, or perhaps you already run a blog with a free theme, let me make you aware which I’m sure you are already are, of the abundance of high quality premium WordPress themes available on the web too, often at the small cost of a new pair of shoes!
But I know what you’re thinking, if there are free WordPress themes available and there are premium one’s too, what are the big difference? Can’t I just get away with using a free theme and save myself time, money and effort?
The short answer is yes you can indeed by all means, but let me explain to you a few essentials before you stick to your trusty free WordPress theme!
- These days many free WordPress themes come with a basic design and often the quality of many free themes aren’t all that great.
- Many free WordPress themes are limited with the features available, basic features such as featured posts plugin or Twitter and RSS integration.
- Many free WordPress themes come with very little in the way of customization. So as long as you’re happy with not ever being able to use your own snazzy logo in your blog or not being able to edit the footer or chance the colour then stick to your glorified free theme!
- Many free WordPress themes available on the web have not been updated since their creation, making them vulnerable to viruses, hacks, and sabotages. A premium theme is often always better written and are designed to incorporate the latest WordPress security updates.
- Many free WordPress themes have no SEO value to them, and often contain a spammy looking backlink in the footer leading to an external site for all you know may even be condemned.
- And finally many free WordPress themes don’t come with any proper documentation leaving you to figure out how to use it correctly.
Still think you want to stick with your free WordPress theme? Well if you’re happy with the prospect of owning a blog or website that that is volatile to not loading correctly, crashing often and vulnerable to being hacked into or sabotaged, even though you have spent all your God given hours working on the content, then that’s fine ignore this article.
